Big feelings can overwhelm anyone. But there are some ways we can help to calm down in the moment so that we are better able to think clearly about our next steps. The more often you practice and talk about feelings when your child is calm, the more likely they are to positively respond when they are under pressure.
For each of these posters I recommend printing on cardstock or laminating for durability. Hang them on a wall or in your calm corner so they can be referenced often.
For my family, we talk about one poster at a time, often focusing on it for one week. We discus how our body feels at each level, along with what it looks like and sounds like. Then check in often during the day to see what level you or your child is at. Most of the time it is easier to calm down around a level 2-3, but far more difficult once level 4 is reached! Knowing how to express your level of frustration to others helps with clear communication.
This poster pack also works extremely well along with the STOP Mindfulness Method (available in my shop), which is an acronym to help you calm down and plan your next steps.
Included in this package is:
4 feeling level posters
1 coping skills poster
